iPhone apps for lawyers

Jeff Richardson, an attorney and publisher of iPhone J.D., and Reid Trautz, director of the Practice & Professionalism Center for American Immigration Lawyers Association, presented a session at the 2010 ABA Techshow titled “60 iPhone Apps in 60 Minutes.”

Here were some of our favorite iPhone apps from their list:

App: Black’s Law Dictionary

Cost: $49.99

Why you want it: An essential resource for lawyers.

App: Barron’s Law Dictionary

Cost: $14.99

Why you want it: You don’t want to pay for the Black’s Law Dictionary iPhone app.

App: Fastcase

Cost: FREE

Why you want it: Access to federal and state caselaw on the fly – in the courtroom, boardroom, while waiting for a flight…

App: Congress in Your Pocket

Cost: $4.99

Why you want it: Contact information on all your Congressmen and women, legislative aides, and more. The tag line says it all, “Now you can have every member of Congress in YOUR pocket.”

App: Zosh

Cost: $2.99

Why you want it: Forget printing, signing and faxing. Download PDFs (or Word docs) onto your iPhone, sign your name and type in text (like dates), then email the new document to yourself or contacts in your address book.

App: LogMeIn Ignition

Cost: $29.99

Why you want it: Remote access your office PC or Mac and grab files you left behind.

App: Dragon Dictation

Cost: FREE

Why you want it: Let the app dictate a note faster than you can type on your iPhone. Send the transcript via email or upload it to a document editing app. Spend 0 minutes training the app to recognize your voice.

App: No Traffic Ticket

Cost: FREE

Why you want it: Advice on how to get out of a traffic ticket from a former police officer (now a lawyer).
