It’s been a busy month as the legal technology business appears to be picking up.  Here are the latest comings and goings in the legal technology community:


eMag Solutions, LLC, a global provider of enterprise content management (ECM) and electronic discovery solutions, announces its enhanced Network Data Management Protocol (NDMP) capabilities for law firms and corporations. NDMP is a method of backing up stand-alone NAS (network-attached storage) devices that otherwise would not allow for the installation of a backup agent because of their closed architecture.

Index Engines, the leader in enterprise discovery technology, recently announced the enhancement of its 3.2 platform to include support for simultaneous indexing of multiple streams of data from backup tapes. This new functionality dramatically increases the ability to process large amounts of tape data within tight time constraints.  Processing up to six simultaneous streams of tape data reaching speeds up to 1TB/hour is now possible.  Combining Index Engines’ automated approach toward tape discovery at these high speeds makes enterprise tape remediation and large scale eDiscovery projects cost effective and achievable.

ADERANT, a global provider of business, financial, and information management software for law and professional services firms, recently announced the introduction of a new Microsoft SharePoint-based application for consolidated information access, Expert ClearView.  Expert ClearView represents ADERANT’s strategy to greatly simplify how ADERANT Expert users can access and use critical information. It provides partners, practice group leaders, professionals, CFOs, and other key firm personnel with a consolidated view of both operational data and performance information, allowing them to improve decision making. The application tailors data to the needs of users based on their roles and presents it to them via interactive Microsoft SharePoint dashboards.

BigHand, the leading voice productivity vendor in the legal industry, has recently launched Version 4 of its award-winning BigHand for BlackBerry® Dictation App. The new Smartphone version, which is released following extensive client input, includes several unique features not available from other dictation providers and further demonstrates BigHand for BlackBerry® market leadership.

codeMantra, LLC,  an international provider of comprehensive litigation support, document management and technology applications and services, recently announced the release of an enhanced version of their Digital Asset Management Platform cPDocRev v2. The new version will enable law firms and corporations to archive, assess, review, manage and produce electronic documents in a more efficient and cost effective manner. cPDocRev v2 is a web-based platform built on a .NET framework and SQL backend, with no software to download or hardware to purchase, maintain, upgrade or configure. The technology is leading edge and configurable with straight-forward pricing to meet each individual project or client specific business rule.

Nextpoint, Inc., the nation’s leading provider of next-generation litigation support services to law firms and corporate law departments, announces new scrolling/zooming functionality upgrades to the document viewer in its Discovery Cloud and Trial Cloud applications.  Nextpoint’s Discovery Cloud and Trial Cloud are an effective, cost-efficient platform for managing large volumes of evidence for civil litigation—including depositions, transcripts, e-mail and other electronically stored information (ESI)—in a single, integrated environment. The company has enhanced the platform’s document viewer with the addition of next-generation navigation features, including real-time zooming and scrolling.

Mattern & Associates has launched its new blog “Mattern of Fact” .  Authored by company president Rob Mattern and Mattern’s expert consultants, Mattern of Fact aims to educate and inform the legal community about in-house and outsourced support services, cost recovery and the vendor contracts that support these functions.

nQueue Billback LLC, the leading provider of software-based information accountability, expense management and cost recovery systems recently announced the most recent version of iA Embedded for Canon with support for imageRUNNER Advance Series Multi-Function Devices.

To help all professionals – not just lawyers – conduct effective research on the Internet, the American Bar Association Law Practice Management Section has published Find Info Like a Pro, Volume 1:  Mining the Internet’s Publicly Available Resources for Investigative Research.  This newly released, complete, hands-on guide shares the secrets, shortcuts, and realities of conducting investigative research using the mostly-free sources of publicly available information accessible on the Internet.  Written for all business professionals, including lawyers,  this resource lists, categorizes, and describes hundreds of free Internet sites, as well as some fee-based sites.  The book can be ordered from the ABA book Web site.


Keno Kozie, a leading provider of information technology design, service and support to law firms and legal departments, announces that the Los Angeles based law firm of Kabateck Brown Kellner, LLP has selected the company to provide implement and manage the firm’s network.  Keno Kozie is also supporting the majority of Kabateck’s IT network functionality on an ongoing basis.

Downs Rachlin Martin PLLC (DRM), a 60+ attorney Vermont-based law firm, has selected Intelliteach, the largest legal-specific service desk company, to manage its help desk. As part of the arrangement, a team of Intelliteach analysts handles 100% of the firm’s initial (“level 1”)  user support calls, provides after-hours (24/7) coverage, and uses its IQTrack web-based call tracking system to monitor ticket volumes and address support bottlenecks.

ADERANT recently announced that Begbies Traynor Group plc, has successfully rolled out ADERANT Expert to its 45 offices throughout the UK.

Farmers Insurance Group of Companies®, the third largest home and auto insurance group in the United States, has selected MedNeutral®’s Medical Records Optimization (MRO) MROinsight decision support tool for medical records in litigated BI claims. MROinsight combines a web-based record management tool with a file-level summary of medical facts with an emphasis on the potential impact of key value drivers.  MROinsight supports initial case triage and early case assessment via standardized, efficient reviews that flag mitigating factors and relevant issues for litigation attorneys.

ADERANT, recently announced the appointment of Carolyn Zelnio as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. Zelnio will be responsible for the company’s accounting, finance, legal, and human resources functions on a global basis. Ms. Zelnio brings more than 20 years of financial management expertise to ADERANT. She has extensive experience in organizational strategy, international growth, mergers and acquisitions, operational change, and public company compliance.

InterLegis, an innovator of litigation and electronic discovery technologies, recently announced that it is expanding its New York presence with the addition of Rich Molesky as Northeastern regional sales director. Based in New York, Molesky will supplement his status as an industry veteran by cultivating consultative relationships with corporations, law firms, attorneys and litigation professionals on behalf of InterLegis.

Women in eDiscovery, a non-profit organization that brings together women interested in technology related to the legal industry, marks its three-year anniversary this month. Women in eDiscovery provides women the opportunity to help each other grow personally and professionally through leadership, education, networking support, and national recognition. In 2007, the organization held its first meeting in Washington, D.C., with 30 women in attendance. In a short period of time, the organization has achieved global reach with more than 4,000 members.
