Summary: Remote Access Engineer

This position is responsible for operational support of and project initiatives involving Sidley’s Remote Access environment. This position provides maintenance, support, and enhancements of the remote access systems including all published business critical applications. Candidates should be team players with excellent communication skills and have the ability to manage a multitude of assignments independently.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Analyzing, planning, testing, and implementation of application software (3rd party & custom developed) within the remote access environment
  • Actively pursuing new technologies to improve effectiveness and efficiency of the remote access systems
  • Monitoring and analyzing the remote access systems to ensure 100% uptime operational availability
  • Supporting high availability technologies (load-balancing)
  • Performing root cause analysis and providing recommendations to improve efficiencies and resolve problems
  • Resolving problems with remote access systems and technologies
  • Escalating problems to vendors or applications teams with supporting documentation
  • Providing troubleshooting training and documentation to the User Support team
  • Implementation and maintenance of disaster recovery solutions
  • Documenting system uptime and usage metrics
  • Maintaining documentation of processes, procedures, troubleshooting guides and change management logs
  • Provide 24×7 On-Call support on a rotating basis
  • Flexible to work overtime as required

Education and/or Experience:


  • BA/BS in computer science/related field or equivalent combination of education and/or experience
  • Strong expertise (5+ years) in Remote Access systems
  • Proven troubleshooting abilities
  • Specific Remote Access Administration experience including:
  • Citrix Access Gateway
  • Citrix Netscaler
  • Citrix Presentation Server (XenApp)
  • Citrix Edgesight
  • Terminal Services
  • RAS
  • VPN
  • Strong understanding of technical networking
  • Strong knowledge of Windows 2000, 2003 and XP
  • Strong planning and analysis skills
  • Strong documentation skills
  • Strong understanding of MS Office Suite and Document Management Systems
  • Strong understanding of email clients
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills


Prior experience with SQL or relational database concepts a plus
